Driven by a belief in collaboration and a general curiosity towards our surroundings, fanfare provides an environment that generates research, knowledge and experiments across a hybrid field of young design. Through socially engaged design – talks, screenings and exhibitions – fanfare seeks to facilitate a dialogue between different voices, and to promote young design projects to a larger audience. In its physical shape, the platform has an active programme and nomadic track of addresses, as we settle in temporary spaces in Amsterdam. This results into a platform that adapts itself to ever-changing settings and surroundings.
Through fanfare, we observe that artistic and design based practices are increasingly functioning as alternative platforms that engage with developments of society. We investigate and question our surroundings and strive to let the activities at fanfare provide a platform with an open eye and curious approach to its own field and relevant external developments. With this approach in mind, fanfare encourages collaborations between culturally engaged design fields such as fashion, music, art and photography to create links with the creative sector at large. Next to being a unifying platform for existing projects, fanfare aims to increase a flow of knowledge and skills, as well as generate new initiatives as we go.
fanfare is founded by Freja Kir and Lotte van de Hoef.
