"When I told my boss I was busy writing about collecting, she laughed and said: “Obviously!”. What she referred to was my need to collect all sorts of crap that is slated to be thrown out. Stacks of paper, piles of wood, Xerox machines and a very broken Friso Kramer chair that, seriously, I will restore any day now."
Meet Lieven Lahaye, a born collector (obviously!). For the upcoming, second Archives edition, Chives invited him to reveal one of his most treasured collections. We’re excited to announce "That book, that page..!" a collection of books that always open, automatically, to the same page.
Apart from the mysterious books themselves, Lieven is providing unexpected insights and speculations on the supposed reasons of these books opening to their specific pages. After all, why would "The Pump House Gang" always open on page 137? And what does that have in common with "Consider the lobster's" page 223?
A dashing appendix, designed by Ott Metusala, will be published on the occasion of this exhibition.
Chives Archives is an occasional exhibition space for accidental archivers and clandestine collectors to show off their tally treasures in cosy corners.
The Archives are initiated, designed and curated by Freja Kir and Celina Yav, ever since they turned the tiny walk-in closet at fanfare's First Grand Opening into a miniature peepshow with Celina's secret collection of bookmarks—Happy 8th Birthday!
Each exhibition is casually themed around the presented collection, not only revealing the stories behind them, but also giving some unexpected insights and nerdy know-how on the charm of collecting.
Please feel welcome to propose your own collection! We're always interested in new contributions to the growing archive of the Chives Archives.
